Check back this Sunday evening for the list of goody winners. 🙂
Bite Me
Thanks so much to Beth for inviting me over! I’m excited to chat about one of my very favorite things—monsters. No, don’t get me wrong, I’m not here to talk about Freddy Krueger-style monsters. (Cause I’m sorry, Freddy, but while you were funny at times, you just weren’t sexy.)
I’m here to talk about the appeal of sexy monsters: vampires, werewolves, and demons. And so many more…
I love reading and writing about strong alpha heroes who are a bit more than human. With vampires, you get men who are eternally young, eternally strong, and eternally hot. A vampire can have a dark side. Anyone who drinks blood has to be dark, but in order to seduce his victims, the guy has to be charming and sexy, too.
As for werewolves…I’ve always found them to have a wild, untamed appeal. The beast lurks so close to the surface, and you always wonder how long the man will be able to control the wildness inside. With the wolves, it’s all about their animal instincts. My next werewolf tale is actually scheduled to release from Kensington Brava this July (yay!). In NEVER CRY WOLF, I let my hero be as wild and sexy as he wanted to be. Lucas Simone is an alpha on the prowl. He’s ready to charm my heroine and more than ready to kick the ass of anyone who tries to hurt her. Ah, wolves—so strong.
And let’s not forget the appeal of demons. Of all the supernatural creatures, I often think that demons have the darkest sides. Depending on the author’s mythology, the demons might actually come from hell. Hard to get darker than that! But with demons, their need for redemption can be incredibly appealing. They’re bad, so bad…but can the heroines make them good? (Yes, I do have a weakness for bad boys.)
But what’s your take? How do you feel about supernatural heroes? And do you have a favorite? I’ll pick one commenter to win a Cynthia Eden book of her choice.
Thank you for checking out my post!

Sounds great. I love the rough and tough hero that has a hint of softness, but only toward his mate. 🙂 Great post. Happy Friday!!

Thank you, Lynn! Those heroes always get to me.

I love supernatural hero’s and I love my bad boys!! That is what always draws me in, finding a tortured soul who draws me in. Eric Northman from True Blood is by far my favorite!!! He’s sexy and puts off ‘don’t f with me vibes’ but his attraction to Sookie stands out and brings out his weakness
February 25th, 2011 at 12:37 pm · Link
LOL, I love those vibes of his! Eric and Alcide both fight for favorite status w/ me. I switch each week.

I love supernatural heroes. Shifters are my favorite because they are super alpha and rough around the edges. Wolf shifters seem to be the most feral and dark. There is a wild quality about them that appeals to me.
Congratulations Cynthia & Beth on the new and upcoming releases!
February 25th, 2011 at 12:38 pm · Link
Thank you for the congrats! I am so drawn to that wild character trait. Maybe it’s b/c folks have to be so controlled in real life. In books, wild sides can come out!
February 25th, 2011 at 10:47 am · Link
There’s not much more appealing than a strong, sexy “bad” guy hero and the paranormal ones are the absolute best of the bunch. Lucas sounds like the perfect hero with those traits.
Loved the post and definitely agree with your take on things. *grin* The book sounds great too!

Hey, Robin! Thank you! Lucas was so much fun to write. The tough, alpha guys always are!

Congrats to both of you on the new releases. I love alpha and supernatural heroes. So glad to see more stories with them. 🙂

If you’d asked me a few years ago, I wouldn’t have given paranormal heroes a second glance, but I’m hooked now. It’s neat how their “super powers” don’t make their hearts work any differently 😉 And it’s similar in appeal to an alpha hero–it’s fun to see them fall 😀

I am so glad to hear you’re hooked on paranormals! Yay!!

Thank you, Lori! I’d wanted to write a story for Lucas ever since Immortal Danger released, so I’m very excited about this book.

I am definitely a big fan of supernatural and paranormal heroes. Adding that little bit of extra just sucks me in and I always enjoying reading how each author spins things a little differently.
February 25th, 2011 at 5:47 pm · Link
I enjoy reading the different spins, too! It’s always fun to see the ideas that other folks have for stories.

I always love supernatural heroes, because paranormal romance is my favorite genre (and even though I’m not into UF, there are UF books that I put to my must read list)… For my favorite supernatural heroes, there are so many heroes that were my favorite ^^
Congratulation for the new releases 🙂

There is just something so sexy about all of them! I’m a big Cynthia Eden fan, fell in love with her Midnight series and have been reading her books ever since! 😀

This book looks great. I do not have a favorite type of supernatural. I agree with all of the reasons that you have that make demons, vampires, and werewolves so great to read about.

I love my paranormal heroes. They are my favorite read. Vampires used to be my favorite but now it doesn’t matter what species they are. If they are tortured alpha males that are brought to their knees by their heroine – I’m good ;). Absolutely love your work!

I love all types of supernatural heroes, whether they be vampires or dragons! I can’t really choose a favorite since there are so many I love like Lucas from Nalini Singh’s Psy/Changeling series and Acheron from Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunter series. The list can go on and on.

Hi Beth & Cynthia
Cynthia, it’s fun seeing here at Beth’s place. You are new to me. I have just fallen in love with your Deadly series, Deadly Heat is on it’s way to me. I must be living under a rock because I only recently realized you write in more than one genre. I should give the dark side a try while I wait for more rom. susp. which I hope you are writing.
See you next week at Marie Force’s Book Club.
February 25th, 2011 at 9:12 pm · Link
Thank you, Mary! 🙂 It’s great to be chatting here today. I hope you enjoy Deadly Heat!

I love supernatural heros . Bad boys with a heart of gold 🙂
February 26th, 2011 at 4:59 am · Link
I love vampires of course but really I enjoy reading about any and all paranormal creatures. Each one has its own powers and traits. And under that is the magnatism of the personality. I think its basically the author that draws their readers though. As appealing as a paranormal might be, in my opinion the character is nothing if not written correctly. But I love how you write and create amazing characters. Just so you know 😉
February 26th, 2011 at 7:02 am · Link
It took me a long time to delve into paranormal books. You were one of the first that I read. I remember thinking wow the story was, writing was great and the characters were well developed. I always snatch up your books because I know I will be in for a treat!

Sounds really good, I will have to look for it! And I love all paranormals as long as they are well written!
February 26th, 2011 at 2:01 pm · Link
Supernatural heroes are appealing and have a bit of an edge because the reader stretches their imagination and the hero is more powerful than his mortal counterparts.
February 26th, 2011 at 2:49 pm · Link
I am huge fan of the supernatural hero===and prefer the dark sexy vamp. The darker the alpha hero is, the more I am attracted to him.
Thanks for a wonderful contest. 😛

I love strong heroes, and none are stronger than dragon shifters, if you ask me (and you did). Sorry I got here so late, but Friday was my birthday and I wasn’t near the computer all evening

There is nothing …i mean nothing…sexier than a super tough alpha! My faves are the tortured ones that rescue their woman but the woman rescues them in turn…ahhhhhhh….cant wait for this one to come out either!

Hi Cynthia!
Great to see you here at Beth’s blog! Never Cry Wolf sounds like another great and sexy paranormal read. I love supernatural heroes because I think authors are able to do so much more with their characters with respect to certainly their “Alpha” qualities but also their abilities. I love shifters, vampires and demons – there is something just inherently sexy about them.
Thanks for the chance to win one of your books!
Best 🙂
