Megan Hart is Visiting and a Giveaway of Stranger!
Thursday, April 30th, 2009

The mega-talented Megan Hart is here with us today. Ask Megan a question or leave her a comment, and you’ll qualify to win a signed copy of her book Stranger!

I pay strangers to sleep with me. I have my reasons…

But they’re not the ones you expect. For starters, I’m a funeral director taking over my dad’s business. Not exactly the sort of person you’d expect to fork over cash for the lust and urgency only live, skin-to-skin contact can create. Looking at me, you wouldn’t have a clue I carry this little secret so close it creases up like the folds of a fan. Tight. Personal. Ready to unravel in the heat of the moment.

Unsurprisingly, my line of work brings me face to face with loss. So I decided long ago that paying for sex would be one of the best (and arousing) ways to save myself from the one thing that would eventually cut far too deep.

But Sam was a mistake. Literally. I signed on to “pick up” a stranger at a bar, but took Sam home instead. And now that I’ve felt his heat, his sweat and everything else can I really go back to impersonal?
Let’s just hope he never finds out about my other life…

Megan’s Interview

BK: Thank you for joining us, Megan.
What is sure to distract you from sitting down and working/writing?

MH: The internet!

BK: What are you working on presently? What about upcoming releases?

MH: Right now I just started a book with the working title Selfish Is The Heart. (I expect it to change.) It will be my third Order of Solace novel ““ the first two come out this fall from Berkley Sensation.
My next release comes out from Spice in July and is called Deeper. It’s paranormal erotic fiction and has an absolutely gorgeous cover! Check it out.

I’ll also be working on a new Spice Brief as well as editing and polishing another novel for Spice called NAKED ““ readers of Tempted will recognize the hero in this one. Alex Kennedy gets his own story!

BK: What’s the best compliment you ever got on your writing or a book?

MH: That my work changed someone’s life or somehow touched them personally ““ that’s always the best compliment.

BK: If you could time travel to any time or place—the past or future—where and when would you go to, and why?

MH: Hmm. I don’t think I would time travel. I think I’d mess up the time-space continuum and that would be bad.

BK: *grin* It certainly would be. Thanks so much for sharing a bit of yourself here today, Megan, and telling us about your wonderful books.

Be sure to leave Megan a comment to qualify to win a signed copy of Stranger! The winner will be announced Friday morning.

All Of Him

Dani Wallace forged her powers as a guardian of light—but it is darkness that tempts her most strongly. Drawn to her fiery beauty and brilliance, Casedren, the prince of a mysterious underworld, initiates her into erotic rites designed to mold her into his compliant consort. Yet Dani refuses to surrender at once. But she cannot resist a man so masterful. The slightest touch of her enigmatic captor ignites an uncontrollable passion to know all of him—and the forbidden secrets he teaches . . . .

“Quinn draws readers into this incredibly dark, sensual world, where sons of Lucifer are another race living in a parallel dimension. With its sexy characters and cunning and malevolent villains, this has all the makings of a hot, thrilling read. 4 Stars.” ““ Romantic Times

Excerpt: Man After Midnight

The stranger watching her dance had hair the color of butterscotch, a rich warm shade that just begged for a woman run her fingers through it.
Barely able to keep her grip on the stripper’s pole, Dani Wallace swung around for another glimpse of the mesmerizing man who’d hired her for a private strip session. Her palms were so damp she barely managed to keep a hold on the slippery metal bar.
She rarely looked twice at the men who came to watch her dance. From the stage, the faces all blurred together, one barely standing out from another. Her job wasn’t to gawk, but to entertain, to fulfill the fantasies of the customers paying to watch her pare down to bare skin. The rule to keep her distance from the patrons was one she’d never broken.
Taking a deep breath, Dani hooked one leg around the pole and bent herself over backward. There’s a first time for everything. This hunk of eye candy designed to delight the female senses was too enticing to pass up.
Even upside down the stranger looked fantastic, like he’d just come off the cover of a GQ photo shoot. His fashionably mussed shag framed a high brow and finely chiseled cheekbones. Deep set eyes, a straight nose and a mouth just made for kissing finished his face. Broad shouldered and narrow hipped, his long legs stretched out endlessly. His clothing was casual, but chic; black jeans and boots, white shirt open at the neck, and a black leather duster. His presence held a sense of command, as if those around him were automatically beholden to serve him, to please him.
Stretched out on the leather lounge bracketing one wall, he had her pinned down under a penetrating stare that never once deviated from her body. Such intense scrutiny would be frightening had he leered, but he didn’t. He appreciated. Eyes locked only on her, his nostrils flared. Hands curled into fists, his body was as rigid as the cock straining against the front of his tight jeans—an impressive sight in itself.
Dani pulled herself up and shimmied down into a deep squat. The fine hairs on the back of her neck tingled with subtle awareness. Her nipples were hard little nubs, aching to feel the brush of his hands, the scrape of his teeth. The heat behind his intense gaze felt hotter than the surface of the sun.
The stranger had been showing up at Faster Pussycats for about a month, always alone, always standing at the rear of the club. He just watched her—never speaking to her, never approaching her. Tall, impeccably groomed and mannered, he was impossible to miss. Tonight was the first time he’d requested a private session, paying the nightclub’s price of three thousand dollars to claim her for the entire evening.
He’d paid in full, in cash. A percentage of the money would be going into her pocket when the night was over. While money might have come easy in his world, she needed every penny she earned. Damn credit cards. The joy she took in plastic had put her over the limit.
Tonight didn’t have to be entirely about the job. A little naughty fun would be nice for a change.
Dani sneaked a glance over one shoulder. His mere presence threatened to overwhelm, yet he hadn’t said more than “please” and “thank you” to her. Through the last half hour he’d watched her gyrate through a medley of innuendo-laced dance beats, slowly taking off her costume until she wore nothing except a beaded G-string and a smile. Moisture seeped between her legs, exacerbated by the rub of the silky material against her sensitive clit.
Her tongue snaked out, tracing her lips. Her grip tightened on the pole, more slippery than ever beneath her sweaty hands. Inside the private VIP suites, the normal rules governing a dancer’s actions ceased to exist. Anything could happen if a woman felt generous and the right man came along.
I’ve never slept with a client.
Common sense told her it was stupid to even consider the idea of having sex with a stranger. Her body had other ideas. Heavy awareness pulsed through her, an arousing accompaniment to the sensual music playing in the background. Put together in one very alluring package, this man was an enthralling enticement to any female. His bad boy posture practically screamed temptation and trouble.
Dani swallowed the lump building in her throat, fighting to clear away the mental images unspooling across her mind’s screen—images of her butterscotch stallion pinning her beneath his weight. She couldn’t help wanting him. Attraction had smacked her upside the head like lightning striking the ground, unavoidable and with electrifying force. It was impossible not to imagine all the things she could do to his magnificent body. She hadn’t had sex since breaking up with her boyfriend three months ago. Horny was her middle name, and she needed a little relief from the tension building up inside her. Her admirer seemed to be the perfect answer.
But would the risk be worth the physical gratification? Lust warred briefly with common sense as she imagined how great his lovemaking would be.
Lust won.

Devyn Quinn Interview

BK: Thank you for joining us, Devyn.
What is sure to distract you from sitting down and working/writing?

DQ: The number one distraction is the pets needing taken care of. With a lot of cats, 5 ferrets and a dog, you can be sure someone’s into something.

BK: Oh, my! They would be a distraction. 🙂
What are you working on presently? What about upcoming releases?

DQ: I’m presently working on Soul of the Wildcat, which is slated for release in Dec 09. After that, I need to work on the first book in a new series I’ve signed up for with NAL, with a paranormal romance theme.

BK: What’s the best compliment you ever got on your writing or a book?

DQ: I’ve gotten a lot of nice compliments from readers, but I think the best are the ones that start out, “I didn’t think I’d like your book, but…” Those are the nicest of all!

BK: Oh, I agree. It’s wonderful to know you turned around a non-believer.
If you could time travel to any time or place—the past or future—where and when would you go to, and why?

DQ: I think I would like to go back to the 1950’s Hollywood, just to meet Marilyn Monroe. She died before I was born and I’ve always wanted to know what she was like. Strange, but to me she’s just fascinating, the ultimate untouchable legend. I want to know why.

BK: I agree, Devyn. Her mystic is so fascinating–it’s impossible to not try and figure out how could she be so charismatic.
Thank you for joining us here, Devyn!

Since that time, she has released 6 titles with Kensington, and will be releasing 7 more books through Spring 2010 through the Aphrodisia imprint. I’m squeezing in here between these fabulous authors to let you guys know I have an ebook release today from Ellora’s Cave. Yep, Lea’s cool widget just reached the ZERO hour. lol.

Claire despises her ability to see into the future, but when her dreams include a heated encounter with a gorgeous, dominant, mysterious lover — and a spine-chilling foretelling of danger to her own life — she knows she has to make a choice between the safety of denial and the seductive passion that that seems to go hand-in-hand with her own death. Having had a taste of the wild hunger that flares between them, it’s not much of a choice at all.

He’s not psychic, but Des knows things Claire’s power can’t reveal. He knows about a psychopathic madman who’s set his sights on her, and the fact that her brainy, rational exterior hides a deeply sensual, uninhibited woman. Des also knows something else — that he will claim Claire as his.

If he can keep her alive, that is.

Beth Williamson is here with us today! I met Beth in person at RT and she is a lovely, warm lady. As many of you know, she’s a very talented author as well. Today she’s telling us about her 2008 CAPA Nominee Hell for Leather and giving away a copy to one lucky commenter!

Exile…or love. Life…or death. His demons will force him to choose.

Gunslinger Kincaid has traded his black clothes and pistols for a homespun shirt and trousers. Now he’s Cade Brody, a man with dark hair, dark eyes and an even darker past. The blood money he’s earned bought him a small piece of property in New Mexico territory, at the base of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. But it can’t buy him peace.

Sabrina Edmonds, a tough, no-nonsense widow, runs the post office and store in the small town of Eustace. She’s made her way in life with an independent streak a mile wide. Sabrina doesn’t want to get involved with Cade, but she finds herself drawn to the dark stranger who hides in his mountain retreat.

Cade wants nothing more than to be left alone, but an elusive wild child who delights in tormenting him, and a town full of people determined to befriend him, conspire to intrude upon his self-imposed exile. Then there’s Sabrina, who should be afraid of him—but isn’t.

Not even when the deadly demons of his past catch up with him.

Beth’s Interview

BK: Thank you for joining us, Beth!
What is sure to distract you from sitting down and working/writing?

BW: CSI. No really, because I work full time, finding time to write can be very challenging. I try to write in the early morning and get a full 1K in each day. Weekends can be verrrry distracting because that’s when I do all my errands, housework and oh yeah, sleep.

BK: Working two careers is quite a challenge, isn’t it? I’m in complete agreement, Beth. Good for you for being so disciplined. What are you working on presently?

BW: I’m working on book 4 in my Devils on Horseback series, Lee. He’s the first physically disabled hero I’ve tackled ““ he lost his left arm in the Civil War. What about upcoming releases? Let’s see, April 28 ““ Hell for Leather (Samhain), June 30 ““ The Redemption of Micah (Brava).

BK: Oh, awesome about the hero with a disability. I worked on a spinal cord injury rehab unit for several years, so its always nice for me to see characters with disabilities in this genre. What’s the best compliment you ever got on your writing or a book?

BW: Oh, that’s a great question. One reader told me I’d reignited her love for romance books, that I’d topped her all-time favorite western romance author. I get a warm feeling just thinking about that e-mail. Oh, and one other (can’t have just one), when Kate Duffy told me I was a “wonderful, wonderful writer”, I about melted in place.

BK: Both awesome compliments, to be sure. If you could time travel to any time or place—the past or future—where and when would you go to, and why? Ha, trick question! Um, geez, I’d have to pick the Wild West, specifically Wyoming in the 1880s. I would love to live out one of my books and be one of the strong, independent women who blazed the trail for the rest of us. Besides, the men would all be wearing chaps and riding horses.

BK: Tell us about Hell for Leather.

BW: Well, it’s a story about self-forgiveness, redemption and how the power of love can heal even the blackest soul. Oh, that sounds really dark, doesn’t it? There’s actually some very humorous parts to the story ““ I try to mix up the really intense, angsty emotional scenes with light banter to give the reader a breath, so to speak.
The hero of HFL is Kincaid, who readers met in The Gift and The Tribute (Malloy family series 5 and 6), a gunslinger who decides to give up his life and identity to start fresh as Cade Brody. The heroine is a strong widow who sees something in Cade that calls to her, a victim of her own tragic story as well. The town is full of characters, and one day hope to write a few more stories for them as well.

BK: It sounds fabulous, Beth. Really.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share a bit of yourself and your art with us today!

Lauren Dane Is Here to Chat and a Giveaway of Relentless!
Monday, April 27th, 2009

Please join me in welcoming talented author Lauren Dane! I just met her for the first time at RT and saw her win the best erotic futuristic award for Undercover. Lauren is here to talk about her writing today and the book that begins where Undercover left off, Relentless! Leave Lauren a comment or ask her a question, and you’ll qualify to win a signed copy of Relentless tomorrow (Tuesday) morning!

In this erotic universe, passion knows no rank…

Since the first settlers came through the portals from Earth, fifteen Families have held the rule of the Federated Universes in their hands. There’s never been a better time than now to throw out the old and usher in a new order. Give voice to the unranked. Abbie Haws has spent her life battling the system. A fighter, she’s always been too busy and driven to pay much attention to finding love. But when she’s granted audience with Roman Lyons, the head of House Lyons, who stands for everything she hates, her instant attraction catches Abbie off-guard…

It’s common knowledge that the Known Universe revolves around Ravena—and that Ravena revolves around Roman Lyons, bred to lead since birth. Roman dreads his meeting with a defiant—if stunning—rabble-rouser. But, sometimes, headstrong personalities in the conference room make for hot-and-heavy, guilty trysts in private….

Now, Abbie will show Roman the parts of her world he wouldn’t otherwise get to see. And he’ll give her a glimpse of the Families’ age old tradition and unleash a sexuality he’d never given rein to before.

Top Pick from Nightowl Romance: Fiery, erotic, and rich with plot, this book is definitely a keeper on my shelf.

4 1/2 Stars from Romantic Times Booklovers: Dane delivers yet another erotic story with a quick-moving plot, detailed worldbuilding, emotional conflict and impossible love that will tug on the heartstrings. Pulled in from page one, readers will enjoy the delicious sensuality between Abbie and Roman and crave it long after the story is over.

Recommended Read from Jo at Joyfully Reviewed: Relentless is a do not miss, stand in line when the bookstore opens book. It is also Joyfully Recommended by me to you as one you won’t want to miss.

Chrissy Dionne gives RELENTLESS 5 Blue Ribbons at Romance Junkies: Emotionally charged, passionate and at times volatile RELENTLESS once again proves that Ms. Dane is a first class author who is fully capable of delivering exactly the sorts of storylines that readers crave.

Mad at Novel Thoughts says of RELENTLESS: RELENTLESS is a definite keeper and one I know I’ll reread many times. Filled with everything I (and other romance readers) want in a romance book, RELENTLESS is a MUST read!

Lauren’s Interview

BK: Thank you for joining us, Lauren!
What is sure to distract you from sitting down and working/writing?

LD: LOL, probably my kids, maybe my husband. Household stuff like laundry and dishes. If we’re just talking about goofing off, it’s likely to be IM with friends, etsy.com or youtube.

BK: What are you working on presently? What about upcoming releases?

LD: I just took a small break after finishing up Coming Undone (January 2010 from Heat). But I did work on a proposal for a new series, sort of like my Chase Brothers books with a twist. I started Trinity, a spin off from my Cascadia Wolves ““ that’s out in October from Samhain. Next releases coming up are What Happens in Vegas…After Dark from Spice and Relentless, a book that takes up after Undercover ends, from Berkley Heat ““ May 1 and May 5 respectively.

BK: What’s the best compliment you ever got on your writing or a book? I like it when people tell me the book was not what they expected and they liked it. I love it when people fall in love with my characters and their families. Family is a huge theme in my books so it pleases me when other people notice it and enjoy it. Aside from that, I got called masterful in a review not too long ago, it made me blush.

BK: If you could time travel to any time or place—the past or future—where and when would you go to, and why?

LD: Hmmm. That’s a hard one because I like where I am now. But I love turn of the century America. So much promise, the world was changing so dramatically. Women were beginning to attain more rights and independence. I have to say, I am a huge sucker for Brenda Joyce’s Deadly series because it’s one of the few that does that time (and now you, so keep it up)

BK: I’m always interested to hear about the different strains that go into the creation of an author’s fantasy/futuristic world. What was the genesis for your development of the Federated Universes in Relentless?

LD: I have a long and abiding love for epic worlds and futuristics give me the opportunity to play around with themes very much important today but in a different context. So I can write about class, about caste systems in a way that doesn’t make people defensive because it’s in some far off future. I can make it about other people, which I find so much fun.

So when I wrote Undercover, it was because I had this idea about second chance love between different classes, but I wanted the heroine to be a warrior on some level. The scene where Sera walks into the barracks in the opening of the book came to me without much effort as I started to write. I love building worlds, it’s why I have so much fun with paranormals and futuristics. I can make stuff up. It’s my world and my rules. Of course then it becomes my job to be sure the world makes sense. I wanted them to be related to humans on some level so I knew I had to bring Earth in somehow. Once I had that I had to figure out how they came to be there instead of Earth. That of course cascades into travel in general, which I’d originally planned to do via space craft. But it didn’t feel quite right, so I ended up with portals being a mode of movement from one universe to another.

Essentially, the book is about how worlds are made up, who governs them and why ““ I just had to give that all a context in this world. But I really like gray areas so while the Imperialist Universes are non-democratic and fascistic in nature, the Federation is freer, with democratic notions, but it’s oligarchic in nature. So the past (ancient Greece) connects with some far off future because humans on Borran are not so much different from humans in Greece.

For me, I like writing futuristics that are reflections in some sense, on who we are or were as humans. It’s the best of both worlds.

BK: Fascinating answer, Lauren. Thanks so much for chatting with us today, and best of luck with Relentless!

Be sure and leave Lauren a comment and you’ll qualify to win a copy of Relentless!
