Hello all! I have the first book in a new paranormal series called Princes of the Underground coming out next Tuesday from Samhain! Lea Closetwriter is doing a giveaway of Velvet Cataclysm this week, if you’d like to pop over and check that out. She’s also done a review of Velvet Cataclsym.
I’m really excited about this book, as well as the series concept. In order to celebrate it’s release, I’m going to do a week long contest to build up to it. This is how my contest is going to work, so read carefully.
Every day, I will put up a different bit about Velvet Cataclysm along with one prize, usually a book, but also some fun ‘stuff’ will be included. Leave a meaningful comment about the day’s entry about Velvet Cataclysm. Next week, I will compile every entry made. If I choose your name, you will win EVERY prize on the day you left an entry. So, for instance, if you stop by three out of the six days of the contest and comment, you will win the prizes offered on those three days. If you leave one comment, you win the prize for that day. If you leave six comments on each day, YOU WILL WIN ALL THE PRIZES!! The drawing and announcement of the winner will be next Monday, May 17.
Sound fun? Please email me at bethkery@aol.com if you have questions.
Monday’s prize is a copy of my just released print copy of Fleet Blade along with an Ellora’s Cavemen Card Deck. (This is a fun deck of playing cards including 52 sexy books covers).
Contest:One word/idea I created in Velvet C. is vitessence–the life force, the energy of the soul. My “vampires” are soulless, so they have no life force, and it’s this they must vampirize from humans in order to survive. Vitessence can be absorbed like energy, but it also is concentrated in the fluids of humans, especially those fluids that are infused with emotion: tears, blood…sexual secretions. So Saint, my hero, and his evil clone Teslar are energy vampires, but vampires in the true sense, as well.
In the book and the video for Velvet Cataclysm (below) I chose the symbol of the sunflower to represent Christina, and the blaze of color and life she brings to Saint’s gray and soulless existence.
Please leave a comment about Velvet C. or the video, and you will qualify to win Monday’s Contest prizes.

Hey Beth!
I loved the video the vampire couple graphic is pretty cool. Sunflowers are one of the brightest flowers I love them.
thanks for the great contest!

I really like this different spin on vampires, how they can draw energy from fluids that have meaning. Very interesting

Who can resist sexy vampires and a deck of cards of steamy book covers.
I like how you created something different with the vampires they are not just the traditional blood suckers but something more.

Nice video. I love sunflowers so I think it is great that you used the symbol of the sunflower to represent Christina.

This looks like it’s gonna be really good! I really like the name that you give to the life force that your vampires need, it’s really unique.
I’m curious now, will your other heroins have symbols like that? I loved how you used the tunnel as a representation of how Saint first felt when he saw Christina, great video!
I’ve heard of energy vampires before, but I don’t think they’ve been written about before in the form of a romance novel.

I liked the you tube video and your take on the vampires. Look forward to hearing more about Velvet Cataclysm.

I think this video is great, and I love that you can already get a sense that our tortured hero will be saved from the light and goodness of his love 🙂 Sunflowers always make me happy and cheery, and I can see why they convey light so well. And so our hero is a vampire in the true sense (blood) and he also sucks energy. Hmmm, how can he control how much energy he has taken though – does he have an internal sense of when to stop or does he suck energy all of the time? If so, how does he refrain from killing his lady?
I am def. going to stay tuned! I am ciked 🙂

I love the black and white at the beginning of the video. I’ve always been crazy about black and white photos, I think they’re more powerful and dramatic, especially with elegent antiques like candlebras. The color then seems all the more dynamic, not only the sunflowers but I was blown away by his bright blue eyes separating Slave from the dark pictures of Teslar.
I also love the psychic take on the vampires. I love a different spin, especially on a genre that’s infiltrating the market right now. A fresh look makes me pick my head up and say oh.

Oooh, looking forward to reading Velvet Cataclysm, Beth! I like the idea of vampires needing not (only) blood but the very essence of life/spirit. I remember reading a different story where the vamps were emotional vampires; vitessence seems to encompass that and more!
And that’s a gorgeous, slightly spooky video!

I loved the video especially the music. IMO, the music set the mood for the video, a bit fast-paced with a touch of mystery.

Nice video. The sunflowers are a great way to show color.

I liked the contrast of the bright sunflowers against the darker images of the video.

Hi Beth, the video turned out great, did you do it yourself?
Also love the line you wrote, “souless world blazed with color”. Can’t wait for this one.

I love the creation of new words that enhance the world you created and to make the storyline more exciting. Hopefully you’ll include a glossary if there are other newly created words in your world.
And the deck of cards would be fun. It would put a whole new spin on strip poker.

Great contest!! I like how you changed up the vampires. So many books are portraying the vamps in a similar light but your not only has a great story line but a different spin making things interesting!! 😉

I’m intrigued by the evil clone…how much mischief and havoc can he get up to? (muwahahaha)

Hi Beth,
Thank you for the contest! I am excited about your new release and the new series! Sunflowers to represent light and the sun-does sunlight kill these vampires? Interesting metaphor. Is she his savior or his destruction or both? Hmm…food for thought.

I cannot see the video 😥 I do love the thought of the sunflower being brought into the dark world of the vampires. I am sure that this will be another one of my favorites, as all of yours have been for me!

Hi all! How is it going? Well, I hope.
Tracy…How are you. I was hoping you’d find your way to this series following Subtle Lovers. It is different, but there are threads of similarity.
Yes, the sunflower is associated with so many things–the sun, the heart chakra, love, the vibrancy of the human soul.
I hope you all enjoy this soulful, sexy series.

“The Soulless Can’t Love…” 🙂 LOVE THAT QUOTE…it’s so sad and yearning.
Can’t wait for this new one Beth, I always enjoy your stories!!

I loved the excerpt Beth & the video & accompanying music. I’m glad it’s part of a series as you got me interesting in the world buliding you started. I totally enjoyed Lea’s review & of course with her eloquence, I loved this quote:
“Ms.Kery pens her signature powerful sexual tension and passion into the narrative of this story, the sensuality between Christina and Saint blazes up the pages.”

I love your created word. It makes an interesting image in my head. When I was teaching we called that creative spelling-getting the idea across when there really isn’t a word for what you want to say. This one sounds especially good, and will be on my list soon.

Great book video…I’m not usually a fan of book videos but this one was very well done. I enjoyed the visual of the light at the end of the tunnel. The summary of this story sounds so heartbreaking and sad but I’m looking forward to it. I must admit, the evil twin angle made me smile!

I think it is so interesting and unique when authors create their own words in books! It truly makes the story original and easy to distinguish between other books, especially because there are now so many books involving vampires! Not that I’m complaining! 🙂 I really like the trailer!
Comment
This sounds like a very different type of vamp. Looking forward to reading it.

Hi Beth,
Yes, I did notice the similarities with the Subtle Lovers Series. The energy exchange between lovers is a common thread in both series. Also, the heroine bringing the hero “to life” with her love and energy is another similarity. I can’t wait for it to come out. Thanks for the shout out. 😀

I loved the video! Darkness and pain for centuries…until he saw her. Oh, I so want to read this..

I love how the concept of vampires can continue to expand and be unique to the author. Though I have heard of energy vampires before connecting them to the earth is different. I also want to know what flower will symbolize the next heroine. I like book videos that are short and to the point.
