It allows you to get further involved with the characters from the first book and sometimes the secondary characters you liked get their own stories. Even if the book was meant to be a stand-alone. And I'm always a little disappointed when a series comes to an end. A lot disappointed if the author just stops writing about that world without warning, especially if they had set up hints for the next book. People love something new and different, but other people want the experience to carry on. I’ve even had people propose to me to have Character X in my next book…and I’ve said…wait, who was that? lol. It was a Character I hadn’t considered hero material at all.
