The Last Day of Summer
Monday, September 7th, 2009

Hi all! Happy Labor Day! Hope you guys are relaxing with friends and family. I just came back from a nice walk around the city. I played tourist and took photos. When I was little and came to Chicago for a school function or something, my father would tell me…’Don’t gawk up at the skyscrapers. You’ll look like you’re from corn country.’

Nineteen years of city living, and I still haven’t learned that lesson.

So here’s a little slice of my Labor Day weekend in the city. How was your holiday?

Haha, Mary! I thought you’d ask. I can zoom in on my mac, but a bit blurry. You’ll have to imagine Chicago’s finest.

    Hi Beth!

Great pics! I love seeing the sights. LOL On the corn country. I was raised in one stop-light town until I left for college in the city. So, I can relate!

Those buildings are gorgeous! LOL Anytime you want to see corn or cows, I’ll send you a pic. I married a country boy, so back to the farm I went!

Hi Sarah–I love farm country, too. Like I said recently at Total Exposure, I like the red barns.

Amelia–yeah, for three days. So, while I was walking down Mich. Ave. I heard this lady say to her husband…Oh, they aren’t closing it down for the OPERA. It’s for OPRAH! Cracked me up.

It was a nice day, Lea. Hope you had one, too.

Yeah, Cecile! Sugar Cane land, huh? I immediately pictured lollipops and candy canes sprouting up from the ground, like in ELF, but I don’t think that’s what you meant. I don’t think I’ve ever actually seen sugar cane growing, so if you have a pic, pass it on by all means!
    :-)

What a gorgeous holiday weekend! Are you going to head downtown and check out all the craziness. I almost wish I could. But wow, what a nightmare that’s gonna be…

Isn’t it fun to go and play tourist in your own city? I like to do that on occasion as well. A few years ago over Memorial Day, we took the girls down to see some of the kid-friendly places on The Strip and then T was too tired to drive back across the city so we got a room at the New York New York (and scored a great deal for being locals) and played it up. :)
